After working as Carlo Cignani’s assistant for more than 10 years, Franceschini developed an independent style about 1680. For the next two decades he executed many large-scale decorations in northern Italy, among them the three large frescoes in the tribune of San Bartolomeo, Bologna (1691–92) and the ceiling decoration of the palace, Modena (1696).
